Making the Grade Rewrite
In current day school systems, we over nurture our students. Extra opportunities like extra credit and points for effort can lead to laziness and getting grades that aren’t deserved. I believe that if we continue this, the results could be disastrous.
When America was founded it stood for getting exactly what it deserved. Back in the 70’s and 80’s a grade was a grade, and that was it. Those people are the current leaders, willing to take us as a country to higher levels in economics and working as a society. This method has built some great leaders throughout time. However, one day, this generation must lead, and they believe that just giving 80% is enough to run a country.
Another problem with this is that it teaches bad work ethic. Children and young adults in a lot of cases don’t care what grade they get, as long as they are moved on to the next grade level. This thought process will slow down our advancement in technology and in society. For example, last year in Atlanta, a light tower collapsed on a worker, unfortunately killing him. Why would it fall? You’d ask, well it’s because of a miscalculation by a worker. This serious incident could have been prevented by doing the job right. The very next year, two 10,000 lb. steel beams crashed into a student athletic complex and Kurt Wiesenfeld quoted, "should we give partial credit since no one got hurt?"
We should be teaching the children today what they properly deserve, even if that means failing or not earning a scholarship. The students may disagree, but in the end it will improve us as a society.
Making the Grade Rewrite Review
With this piece of writing, I noticed that my writing was a little bit “jumpy.” Meaning that it was jumping topics very quickly without evaluating on the points. I noticed that I had some good ideas, but I never expanded and evaluated on them. Since this was a timed paper, it is understandable that it wasn’t perfect, so I took this chance to try and perfect my work.
