Forrest Gump
One movie that resonates with me and is always a choice for a weekend is Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump, directed by Robert Zemeckis and acted by Tom Hanks. This movie is a story about the interesting life of Forrest Gump. Beginning as a “local idiot” from a small town in Alabama, he transforms into a college football player, one of the best army members ever seen, a ping pong player, a boat captain, the owner of Bubba Gump, and eventually a father. It is a movie, but the fact that he was born out of Greenbow, Alabama and accomplished all this, and made it feel so real, is astonishing.
The characterization made the movie feel like a real story, which makes it one of the best movies out there. There is Jenny, who quoted, “run Forest run.” She started out as the only girl who would talk to Forrest on the first day of school, which she unknowingly created a bond that would last for her entire life. Then there was Bubba, who met Forrest on the first day of military training who also unknowingly created a bond and a business. Also, Forrest Gump of the Gump family. He, like Matt Alacran from House of the Scorpion (See Article) discovers the world and so does the audience through his eyes.
Another reason Forrest Gump is one of the best movies, is the emotional toll it takes on you. As Forrest lives his life, he meets new people and they pass away, like Bubba, Jenny and Mama. Forest visits their graves and pays his respects to his lost friends which creates a sense of authenticity in the story. I would recommend this movie to anyone looking for an emotional and hysterical ride as Forrest Gump discovers his friends and opportunities throughout his life.
Forrest Gump Reflection
Forrest Gump is and has been my favorite movie since I first watched it. I watch it at least 3 times a year and it never gets old. Upon reflecting on what makes this movie so good is the characterization. Forest encounters multiple extremely well characters, some that are real people that once existed. Because you got to know the characters and their mindsets it made it much more emotional to understand the challenges they encounter. Like, Lieutenant Dan when he wanted to die in battle like the rest of his family, but when the ambush occurred he lost his legs and remained alive.
